What A Jew Does Matters

It's Not What They Say .. It's What Jews Do.

It matters not only to her and those closest to her. It matters to the entire world.

When a Jew does a mitzvah, he accomplishes two things.

a) He forges another connection to G-d;

b) He adds another link in the armour of protection against the forces of evil.

And because all Jews, at their deepest essence, are all part of the same mega-soul, what a Jew does impacts on every other Jew. This is the true meaning of the Rabbinic statement, "All Jews are responsible for each other".

When I do a mitzvah I not only personally connect to
G-d, I strengthen the connection of all Jews to G-d.

When I do a mitzvah I not only protect myself from evil, I bring protection against evil to a Jew living on the other side of the world.

At a time when our brothers and sisters in Israel are under attack, it is especially important to increase our connection to G-d and to do whatever possible to bring down an extra measure of Divine protection.

Those who are subscribed to my FaceBook (facebook.com/mileckib) page and to a lesser extent, the Daily Word (twitter.com/southhead), would see that I have been encouraging extra performance of mitzvot since the beginning of Operation Cloud of Defence

More specifically, I have been encouraging the laying of tephilin for men based on the dictum: "And all the nations of the world will see that the Name of G-d is called upon you and they will fear you" - the "Name of
G-d upon you" refers, explains the Talmud, to the Tephlin

And for women, Shabbat candle-lighting, based on the Midrash: "If you observe the Lights of the Shabbat, I will show you the Lights of Zion".

These are my suggestions. However, there may be other mitzvot that YOU prefer. If so, commit to the mitzvah that is most meaningful to you personally and do it as you have never done it before!

There is an excellent website that enables you to connect to an individual Israeli soldier who has requested that a mitzvah be done on his behalf - check it out here

"Chabad also have a website where you can commit to doing mitzvot for all soldiers (and Israelis) in a more general way - check their's out here"

Which ever way you go is fine. The main thing is to commit to doing more mitzvot.

To quote David Ben Gurion - "What matters is not what the nations say, but what the Jews do!"

And through the mitzvah-commitment of Jews all around the world, we will strengthen the true Iron Dome of Divine Protection for our brothers and sisters in Israel, may Hashem bless them and protect them always.

With best wishes for a peaceful Shabbat,

On behalf of the Rebbetzen and all of us at South Head,

Rabbi Benzion Milecki OAM
