On Simchat Torah we rejoiced with the Torah. Now it's time to learn it!
There are two parts to Torah - the inner and the outer. The outer focuses on what we do. The inner - on who we are, why we are here and the bonds that bind us to the world, to other human beings and to G-d.
Most people are aware of the outer part of Torah - the do’s and don’ts. Few, of the inner part of Torah - the Kabbalah. The outer part of Torah is called Gufa d’Orayta - the Body of the Torah; the Kabbalah is called Nishmata d’Orayta - the Soul of the Torah. The body is indisputably important - but a body without a soul is lifeless.
To breath life into Torah we need Kabbalah!
Do you live day by day or are you energised with the belief that your life has ultimate purpose?
Do you sometimes feel that you are living a duality - that who you are is not reflected in what you do?
Have you found your own voice or do you live to please others?
Are you motivated by joy or are you subconsciously plagued by fear of your own demise?
Do you see the inner beauty of our world or are you put off by its external obnoxiousness?
In our newest JLI course we will learn how Kabbalah responds to these and other questions as it inspires us to lead lives of joy, meaningfulness and integrity.

The famous Sephardic scholar, Rabbi Chaim Yosef David Azoulay (the Chida) explains that the words Bereishit Bara ("in the beginning He created") has the same numerical value as "Shema Yisrael". This means that from its very inception - the purpose of the world was to be an expression of the One G-d.
As we approach Shabbat Bereishit, I too wish you too a similar "In the Beginning". May it be a year in which you are in harmony with both G-d and His world, and your body and soul, your inner and outer lives, are in harmony with each other.
