As we approach the High Holy Day season we pray to G-d for a bountiful year. At the same time we look to ensuring that we help those families who would otherwise not be able to enjoy Yom Tov in the way most of us take for granted. Unfortunately, there are still many families who need assistance to provide even the basics for Yom Tov.
The previous generosity of our big-hearted community, encourages us to hope that we can rely on you again to assist in this most important Mitzvah of helping our fellow Jews.
Your continued support means that literally dozens of families can be assisted with large amounts of vegetables & fruit, eggs, poultry, meat, wine and groceries over the Yom Tov period.
Judaism is not a religion of harsh penance, and certainly not a religion of abstinence. Eating and drinking well with friends and family is a time-honoured way of showing respect and honour for our Holy Days. But there is one rider: ensure that your joy and abundance is shared by those who cannot afford to prepare festively for themselves.
We therefore appeal to you, to once again dig deep so that we can continue to fulfill this important mitzvah to ensure that everyone has a Sweet Year.
As always, you can honour your friends and family who host you for Yom Tov meals with a donation to the Simchat Yom Tov Fund in their honour, which we will acknowledge with a beautiful card. Please contact Helen on 9371 7300 ext 4 or email secretary@southhead.org to organise your donation.
May Hashem reward all those who contribute to this important cause, measure for measure, by giving you parnassah and wealth, and ensuring that neither you nor your loved ones are ever in need.
Together with our people Israel everywhere, may you be signed and sealed for a Good, Sweet and Prosperous Year.

THE COLLECTED WRITINGS VOLUME 2 ; The Jewish Year Part 2, Elul- Adar; by Samson Raphael Hirsch
In these essays Rabbi Hirsch discusses the significance of the month of Elul as the four weeks of preparation for Rosh Hashanah. He writes about the concept of Selichot and the call of the shofar. One of the essays is about the first Elul in the desert. These essays are translated from the original German into English by Rabbi Hirsch's grandson, Rav. Dr. Joseph Breuer.
