STOP PRESS:

 A 100k run; a 4,500m climb;
In 18 hours at 60 years!
Sheer Determination!

Join us in Shul THIS Friday night when Professor Terry Diamond shares his unique perspective on
KEEPING YOUNG AT SIXTY!

Dear [first_name]

Shavuot at South Head

A very big thank you to Carli Freiberg, Adam Schwartz and Devorah Milecki for their extraordinary talks on Shavuot.

Although I had expected these brave young people to move our community to a new level of awareness and compassion, they did so in a manner that  even I didn't anticipate.

They touched everyone so deeply with their honesty, their courage and their determination to help others. Perhaps most importantly, they gave people hope and showed that with perseverance, love and support there can be light at the end of the darkest tunnel.

The talks were the subject of discussion in Shul throughout all of Yom Tov. And since Yom Tov has concluded I have been approached by many outside our immediate community who have told me how deeply the evening impacted them as well.

There are already signs that this is the beginning of far broader community awareness - and as a result, far more support, compassion and empathy than has been the case in the past.

The evening was completed through the meaningful insights and contributions of Anne Schwartz, who provided a mother’s perspective, the very compassionate clinical psychologist Laura Farkash and Rabbi Mendel Kastel who expanded on the services available through the Jewish House and the general community.

May Hashem give each of them the strength to continue their good work, and the blessing to see the fruits of their labour and courage.

It’s All in the Food!

The Talmud tells us that of all the Yomim Tovim, Shavuot is to be associated with best food, and being a strictly Orthodox Shule we sure didn’t let that mitzvah go unobserved!

Compliments to Bernice and her remarkable team for the absolutely spectacular Shavuot Dinner and the Kiddushim throughout the Yom Tov. And what a surprise our Youth Leaders had for us with “Wine and Cheese Tasting”- I don’t know when “chef”ing was introduced into the Yeshiva curriculum - but boy these boys had it all down pat. Hey, it’s worth joining South Head just for our culinary delights!

A very special thank you to each of the over thirty women (and one man - guess who!) who came to assist Rebbetzin and Bernice with baking cheese cakes for those in need in our community.

And finally compliments to our Youth Leaders for the really well organised and attended Ten Commandments and Ice Cream Party for kids. At South Head no one misses out!

Nick Rabinowitz

And from tears we turn to laughter as we prepare to host one of the funniest men on earth.  This coming Wednesday evening promises to be both comic and inspirational - leaving you with a broad smile and a whole lot more kindness! Clichere to book.

On behalf of the Rebbetzen and all of us at South Head, I wish you and yours a wonderful Shabbos!

Rabbi Benzion Milecki OAM

ONE SMALL DEED CAN CHANGE THE WORLD, Compiled by Nachman Seltzer

This unusual book is a collection of true stories of everyday encounters with extraordinary results.
We are amazed by the miracles that a few words and small acts of kindness can bring about. All the stories will touch us, sometimes amuse us but always inspire us.
