In the forefront of many Australian minds this week were the executions of men who, by all accounts, had turned their lives around but were not given a second chance.
Is there a Jewish take on this?
On Monday we will celebrate Pesach Sheini. What is it's significance? What does it teach us?
There are not one, but two, different descriptions of the creation of Man. The first describes Man as he could be - a perfect reflection of G-d. The second describes him as he so often is, in constant tension between body and soul.
Had there only been the first creation story we may have developed an attitude of "perfection or bust".
G-d therefore tells us: I am aware of human foibles, of the difficulty of maintaining consistency amidst the distractions of a material world. I have therefore created you with parallel possibilities. If you get it right from the start - that's great. But even if you don't, all is not lost. I have, from the very beginning, carved out an alternate path for you. You will still achieve your destiny - albeit through a more tortuous route.
This too is the message of Pesach Sheini. There were those who, not having observed the first Pesach, feared that they had forever lost the opportunity. G-d told Moses: Tell them not to worry. I will always give a second chance to those who really want it!

While Australians were focused on Indonesia, a shocking tragedy was occurring in Nepal affecting many hundreds of both Australians and Israelis among many other nationalities.
It was a source of great pride to see the alacrity and efficiency of Israeli organisations, including the IDF and MDA, in rushing to the scene to save as many lives as possible.
We also join with Israeli President Rivlin in expressing our great pride in the Chabad Shluchim of Nepal who are playing a vital role in alleviating the suffering.
Take a look at this beautiful video to see President Rivlin hosting some very special Nepalese children in his home!
On behalf of the Rebbetzin and all of us at South Head, wishing you Good Shabbos.

JLI - Judaism Decoded Are You an Orthodox Jew?
Whether you are a novice or a regular student of Talmud - this course will provide you with a fundamental framework through which to understand Judaism and its sacred texts.
If you've ever wondered what right Talmudic Rabbis, who lived 1,500 years ago in Babylon, have to tell me how I should practice Judaism, or how electricity and other mod-cons could be forbidden on Shabbat when they didn’t even exist in Biblical/Talmudic times.....then join us ..Monday evenings from May 4 OR Tuesday mornings from May 5.
We had so much fun at Kosher Chef this week! We all made chocolate and cheese danishes and they were delicious!
• Bless the Kids Shabbos this week so make sure you're in Shul by 10.15 to receive your blessing from the Rabbi along with a yummy treat ....and you will get to make your very own edible bonfire in honour of LagB'Omer
