Dear [first_name],

Locking away your Chametz and delegating me the power to sell it on your behalf is an easy way of observing one of the most important laws in the Torah. There is no charge for this service. Please remember that Chametz that remains in the possession of a Jew over Pesach may not be used, eaten, bought or sold even after Pesach. Click here to use the online facility to sell your Chametz

As Pesach approaches we look to ensuring that we help those families who would otherwise not be able to enjoy Yom Tov in the way most of us take for granted. Unfortunately, there are still many families who need assistance to provide even the basics for Yom Tov.

The previous generosity of our big-hearted community, encourages us to hope that we can rely on you again to assist in this most important Mitzvah of helping our fellow Jews.

Your continued support means that literally dozens of families can be assisted with large amounts of vegetables & fruit, eggs, poultry, meat, wine and groceries over the Yom Tov period.

Judaism is not a religion of harsh penance, and certainly not a religion of abstinence. Eating and drinking well with friends and family is a time-honoured way of showing respect and honour for our Holy Days. But there is one rider: ensure that your joy and abundance is shared by those who cannot afford to prepare festively for themselves.

We therefore appeal to you, to once again dig deep so that we can continue to fulfill this important mitzvah to ensure that everyone has an enjoyable Pesach.

As always, you can honour your friends and family who host you for Yom Tov meals with a donation to the Simchat Yom Tov Fund in their honour, which we will acknowledge with a beautiful card. Please contact Karen on 9371 7300 ext 0 or email admin@southhead.org to organise your donation. Alternatively, you can donate online by clicking here.

May Hashem reward all those who contribute to this important cause, measure for measure, by giving you parnassah and wealth, and ensuring that neither you nor your loved ones are ever in need.

With best wishes for a good Shabbos on behalf of the Rebbetzin and all of us at South Head,

Rabbi Benzion Milecki OAM

President's Message
Changes at South Head

There have been several important changes in our synagogue.

First, following Rabbi Dovid Sebban’s move to Israel in January, we have asked Rabbi Yehoshua Niasoff to take on the extra responsibilities of being the second rabbi on top of his work as our Chazzan. Rabbi Niasoff is now in charge of the daily minyan (reading the Torah, giving short dvar Torahs and ensuring sufficient attendance), visiting sick members, other pastoral care and developing programs to engage with older members. John Temple is volunteering to assist in sick visiting. We welcome others who would like to work with Yehoshua and John – please contact them. Read More

Jewish Artistry
Mr. Naftali Deutsch

First of all, the Rebbe looked at me and started talking to me in Yiddish, asking me about my background and my Torah learning. He figured out right away that I was a Holocaust survivor, and he urged me to write a book about what I had witnesses. "Don't hire someone else to write it; that won't be good enough. You should do it yourself, and I am sure you will do a good job," he said. And I did just that. I wrote the original in English and it was published under the title, A Holocaust Survivor in the Footsteps of his Past. I then sent it to Yad Vashem where it was translated into Hebrew. Read More

Parasha Sheet
Parashat Vaykhel-Pekudei

Q: "In six days the work shall get done", says the second verse of Parashat Vayakel. In describing the Mitzvah of Shabbat, would it not have made more sense for the Torah to say, "In six days you shall do work”?

A: The Torah only mentions things that are necessary and certainly does not repeat things if there isn’t an additional lesson to be learnt. So clearly another lesson about the observance of the Shabbat is to be learnt here. (It is interesting to note that the Mitzvah of observing the Shabbat is mentioned more often in the Torah than any other Mitzvah!) Read More
