The Lid's Off!
Child Sex Abuse is a Jewish Problem too!

Child sex abuse is far more pervasive than many of us have realized. I have put together an outstanding panel of experts led by keynote speaker, Melbourne Barrister Norman Rosenbaum, and moderator, well known Sydney psychologist, Amanda Gordon, to supply the answers and strategies we need to stop predators and protect our children.

Panelists include representatives of NSW Police, DOCS, Jewish House, Jewish News and Jewish Day Schools as can be seen on the accompanying flier. A late, but important, addition to the panel is Deborah Blackman who has expertise in the area of preventative counseling for both parents and children.

The Panel Discussion will take place on Shavuot night, May 14th, commencing 9.00pm sharp. No doubt there will be those who will question the wisdom of making this a topic for Shavuot. However, when you realize the extent of this affliction, both in Australia and overseas, and the lifelong effects on victims, you quickly realize that the only way forward is to shine the brightest light possible on it.

Please make every effort to attend this extremely important discussion.

Annual Shavuot Dinner

On a lighter note, please join us for our very popular Annual Shavuot Dinner, which will take place on the same night between 6 and 8pm. Places are strictly limited so to avoid disappointment please book with Karen on 9371 7300 ext 1 or email admin@southhead.org

After dinner we will kick off our Shavuot Evening Learning and Discussion with a short talk at 8:00pm by newly appointed Moriah Dean of Jewish Life and Learning, Rabbi Benji Levy followed immediately at 8:15pm by internationally acclaimed author and Master Storyteller, Hanoch Teller.

The kids haven't been forgotten either. Please see below details of the fantastic children's programme and Ice Cream Party that Brookie has arranged for Wednesday morning, May 15th

Light and Joy
And a musical setting to boot

Hanoch Teller's feature length, fully scored film event is just over a week away and the tickets are going fast.

This exclusive screening at South Head is your only chance to see this amazing film. It will not be available through any other medium so don't wait. Buy your ticket before and ensure you don't miss out. Call Helen now on 9371 7300 ext 4 or email secretary@southhead.org

Let me conclude with a short thought from one of this week's Daily Word:

Torah was given on a mountain - through her we attain the highest heights; on the smallest mountain - to instil in us humility as we ascend!

On behalf of the Rebbetzin and all of us at South Head I wish you a Good & Peaceful Shabbos

Rabbi Benzion Milecki OAM
