STOP PRESS: Check Out The Cool NEW South Head Youth Video! Click here ![]() Rabbi's Message Dear [first_name], Rebbetzin Henya and I bless you with a year of inner peace and harmony, and the true joy and deep happiness that comes from: meaningful achievement in your personal lives and in your contribution to the lives of others; freedom from conflict and worry over health, family or finance; and the confidence that Hashem is with you, loves you and guides you. With best wishes for a Shabbat Shalom and Ketiva v'Chatima Tova l'Shana Tova U'Metuka to you and all your family on behalf of all of us at South Head. Rabbi Benzion Milecki OAM P.S. Based on your feedback, the Chazan and I are working very hard to ensure that the Rosh HaShanah service concludes no later than 1.15pm In order to achieve this, we need to blow the Shofar no later than 10.15am. As you know hearing the INITIAL blasts of the Shofar is THE primary mitzvah of Rosh HaShanah. It symbolises our acceptance and Coronation of G-d as our King. According to our Sages, it is at when the Shofar is sounded that the Heavens are opened and penetrated, our prayers enter directly before G-d, and He in turn blesses us with a good and sweet year. Although, the Shofar is sounded at other times during the service, it is this FIRST time that is most important. Could I therefore ask you to make every effort to be in shule no later than 10:00AM on both Monday and Tuesday. Apart from the very important spiritual reason above, this will also greatly assist in maintaining decorum in the Synagogue. * * * * * As Jews in Israel and around the world mourn Shimon Peres who served Israel as President, Prime Minister and in many other capacities over his long career, may I suggest to our congregants that you read this short bio and tribute to a man who understood that without Torah and Sinai the Jewish People cannot exist. Shimon Peres, the often controversial Israeli leader who served in a variety of political and defense positions from before Israel’s founding, and who later in life became the nation’s ninth president and the world’s oldest head of state, passed away today in Tel Aviv following complications from a stroke. He was 93 years old. An influential force in Israeli political life, Peres stood apart from many of his fellow secular Zionists who sought to jettison traditional Judaism from the fledgling state. Born to a noted rabbinic family in pre-war Poland, throughout his life Peres considered Torah, its mitzvahs, and faith in G‑d to be the very foundations of the Jewish people. It was a conviction that was reinforced, expanded and deepened after meeting with the Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, later in life. First, new MP Julian Leeser spoke movingly about being the first Jewish Liberal member of Federal Parliament from New South Wales and about the death of his father 20 years ago; as Rabbi Milecki said, Julian is a proud Jew and a credit to our community. Then we had the Niasoff extravaganza: Levi’s bar mitzvah (where he read the Torah and haftarah and led the davening for Mussaf); the aufruf of Baruch, Yehoshua’s youngest brother (who got married in Melbourne the next day); and the birthday of Mrs Sophia Niasoff, Yehoshua’s mother – with celebrations enriched by our talented choir and a bountiful Kiddush. Last week Toby Port had his bar mitzvah, we honoured Malcolm Kofsky and Ian Charif for their long service to our shul through their appointment as life wardens, and we enjoyed a fantastic South African-themed Kiddush, including a creative little game park – great thanks to Bernice Charif, the mastermind of the event. Parasha Sheet Parashat Nitzavim
A. When two people feel an attraction to each other, but realize that with the passage of time, that attraction could gradually disappear, they establish a covenant. The covenant maintains their connection even at times, when on a conscious level, there might be reasons for distance and separation. Read More Communal Events Support The Community! |
