[first_name], Will We See You?

Dear [first_name],

With Shavuot only two days away, we are gearing up for a Shavuot like you have NEVER seen before!

Saturday night at 6:15pm we commence with our totally scrumptious Annual Shavuot Dinner, featuring "From Sinai to Sydney. The story of Shmaryahu Bowdré". We are already overbooked with over 200 attendees!

Saturday night at 8:15pm The panel discussion of the year! Let's Talk About Drugs & Alcohol! From Despair to Triumph, The stories we ALL need to hear, but are too afraid to ask about.

Panelists:

The Teen Scene: Brett Rosenberg and Liora Ensley tell it like it is
Recovered Addicts: ‘Rodney’ and ‘Justin’ give us hope
The Impact on Family: ‘Lizzy’’s Mum ‘Yael’ shares the pain

Discussion Points:

  • Should our day-schools test kids?

  • Why do kids begin to use drugs?
  • What are the effects of drug and alcohol abuse on the body?
  • Should we legalise marijuana?
  • Are injecting rooms a good idea?

Sunday at 10:30am, we have our traditional Ice Cream Party for children featuring a Magic Performance, Ice Cream Bar and of course the Ten Commandments.

No Operation Needed
Dr. Harold Serebro

Afterwards, in ensuing years, Rabbi Bernhard and I often spoke about it when we got together on Jewish festivals or for Shabbat dinners. The lesson to me was that you have to listen to everyone’s opinion, because arrogance comes before the fall. I was irritated in the beginning, but at the end I was astounded. And this incident had a very profound effect on me. Because of it, I started reading a lot of teachings and writings of the Rebbe and, even if I never had any personal contact with him, I was deeply affected by his tremendous wisdom. Read More

Q. Why was it necessary to take a census of the Jewish people? Surely Hashem should have known how many Jews there were in the Jewish nation!

A. Our Sages tell us that Hashem loves the Jewish people dearly and therefore He counts the Jewish nation all the time. It is like a rich man counting his gold; Hashem continually counts what is dearest to Him - the Jewish people.  Read More
