Yom Yerushalayim
G-d Is With Me - I Shall Not Fear

Jerusalem is known as Talpiot - literally the Mount of Mouths. It is the mountain towards which all mouths are directed.

Similarly, wherever Jews live in the world they turn towards Israel, when in Israel they turn towards Jerusalem, when in Jerusalem they turn towards the Temple Mount, and when on the Temple Mount, they turn towards the Holy of Holies. The Holy of Holies contains the Even HaShetiya - the Foundation Rock - "from which the Universe was hewed".

Forty-nine years ago, on the 28th of Iyar - commemorated Sunday this year - we regained possession of the Temple Mount, the Holy of Holies and the Even HaShetiya - for the first time in almost two thousand years.

It was an event which struck a chord at the heart of every Jew. Not because it was a military, political or even national victory - but because it was a homecoming - a homecoming of the Jewish People to its very source, and a homecoming of the Temple to those who have been chosen by G-d to be its guardians: we the Jewish People, "a nation of priests and a holy nation".

Let us express thanksgiving and joy on this day, "This is the Day that G-d has made, we shall sing and celebrate on it" Let us resolve to never, ever let go of the greatest gift that G-d has bestowed upon us. Yes, there are countless pressures upon us and upon our leaders. By returning the Temple Mount to us, G-d has demonstrated that He is with us. So let us declare, in the words of the Hallel, "G-d is with me, I shall not fear what a mere human (threatens) to do to me."

On behalf of the Rebbetzin and all of us at South Head, best wishes for a Good Shabbos and Yom Yerushalayim Sameach.

Rabbi Benzion Milecki OAM

Founding A Hospital
Rabbi Gershon Lieder

At the meeting, we also asked the Rebbe to write us a letter of recommendation which we would be able to use to persuade Lubavitcher chasidim to donate to our cause. The Rebbe answered that he customarily does not write letters of recommendation, but he offered to write us a personal check which we could then photocopy and attach to our prospectus. “If they see that I donated,” he told us, “I’m sure that they will give as well.” It was a very wise solution and, indeed, it helped us immensely. Parasha Sheet
Parashat Bechukotai

Parashat Bechukotai speaks about the rewards Hashem will give the Jewish people for performing His Mitzvot. There are two kinds of rewards for the performance of Mitzvot, which are discussed below.

1. The reward of the Mitzvah is the Mitzvah itself: Before performing any Mitzvah we recite a standard blessing which begins with the words ‘Blessed are you Hashem our G-d, Creator of the universe, who made us holy with His commandments and commanded us …’ Our ultimate motivation in performing the Mitzvot is not the reward or material benefit we will receive, but simply vetzinvanu, that G-d commanded us.  Read More
